“Garden-pedia: An A-to-Z Guide to Gardening Terms” Book Review
Summary: What a fun, and HELPFUL book! I don’t know about you, but remembering all the Latin names and terminology used by super experienced gardeners sometimes leave me confused. Even though I’ve been gardening for almost 30 years, I still find myself at a loss sometimes trying to keep up with the garden jargon.
Here’s the answer! A delightful book to help you understand gardening terms.
Genre: Guide, Informational, Detailed
Gardening Experience Level: Beginner through intermediate level.
Author: Pamela Bennett and Maria Zampini
Publisher: St. Lynn’s Press
Date of Publishing: 2015
Format: Soft Cover
Content: This book was a delight to discover. The authors open with a great introduction about WHY they saw a need for a book like this. Through their experience in the industry, they realized there was a lack of resources such as this book, to make it easier for newer gardeners to understand the lingo and the meanings, as well as make them feel more at ease as gardeners.
The book begins with a quick explanation regarding Latin and Common Names in the gardening arena, and how to read plant labels. Then, right into the A-Z listing of terms and definitions. They cover everything from CLAY soil, to HARDENING OFF, to what a SUSCEPTIBLE HOST is. All the definitions are easy to read, but not dumbed down, and offer other related terms to follow up with.
Any beginning or intermediate gardener will benefit from owning this book. I know I’ll find myself referring to it often over the next gardening season. More advanced gardeners might enjoy gifting a copy to the younger generations, to encourage them to enter the world of gardening armed with some solid, basic knowledge.
Photos: Lots and lots of gorgeous color photos of orchids!
